Four years ago I had never heard of a word-of-the-year either. Then a mentor of mine told me how she chose a word to focus on for the year.

That year I chose my first word and found that it helped guide me and keep me focused each day even with all the normal distractions. 

It was so much fun I made a Word-of-the-Year Generator to help all my friends create the word that could empower them for the year.
